The Information Centre for International security (ICIS) is a civic initiative, a regional project established in 2009 in order to provide  the information support   for  the implementation of  the “National Security Strategy of the Russian Federation till 2020"   in the aspect of  the development of  democracy and civil society in Russia. The underlying principle of the project is to provide an open access for the information and intellectual resources on current issues of the international affairs and the international security, in particular.

 Special emphasis is put on the modern challenges and hazards that have an impact on security with the emphasis on the international security as well as on the possible actions of the world community in order to overcome them.

While implementing the project it is planned to create the library of  the materials on wide range of security issues including websites and information sources provided by the  Russian and international organizations which will be available to  all Internet users.

 Assistance in developing contacts at the level of experts dealing with the current  issues of the   international security agenda  is an important mission of the Centre. Organization of round tables and conferences will contribute to an open and informal exchange of views both on fundamental issues as well as on the actual events in the sphere of the international relations and international security, in particular.

Taking into account the lack of the interaction between the leading scientific and information centers of Russia and those in the other parts of the world  the project is supposed to stimulate the interest in the research work and  development  of the concepts of the prevention of the local, regional and global  threats to the regional and international security.

The main objectives of the project are:

 To assist in the regional and international cooperation of the researchers  as  one of the measures in order to  overcome confrontation. Assist in the development of the educational and research work in the field of security.

- Encourage   the communication among experts dealing with the issues of the international security agenda.

-  Assist in   the development of the dialogue between Russia and NATO, USA and the EU on the issue of the formation of the new architecture of the European security.
